Firestone’s decades-long partnership with the NTT INDYCAR SERIES allowed for some incredible experiences creating engaging content and campaigns. Firestone Racing — the racing arm of the business — was an opportunity to ideate around more than tires. I was able to help create kick-ass content centered around the drivers and the biggest races, including the content strategy behind our Indy 500 executions.
Who’s Next? An Indy 500 Experience
Who doesn’t like free stuff? I came up with an idea to take advantage of an Indy 500 that wouldn’t have fans in the stands due to the pandemic in 2020. It was a contest — pick the correct Indy 500 champ in 2020, win a set of tires and two tickets to the 2021 race. We built out an entire campaign and I developed all copy + the landing page as we successfully capitalized on a one-of-a-kind Indy 500.
The Whatever You Drive Challenge
While in Austin, Texas for content day, we captured video with each driver reciting Firestone’s iconic “Whatever you drive, drive a Firestone” tagline. We had no plans for it at the time, but felt it might come in handy later. It did. With the sports world paused early in the pandemic, I led the creation of an organic, March Madness-style competition on IG Stories where fans voted on the best impression. Conor Daly, one of the funniest dudes in INDYCAR, was our winner.
